Future Health Professionals Conference

February 28,2013  marked the 11th year for the Coastal Bend Health Education Center's annual Future Health Professionals Conference. Each year the Health Careers Program works in conjunction with area universities, colleges and the medical community to host a special conference for high school students that highlights the range of health care professions available to them.

This year's event took place on the campus of Texas A&M University-Kingsville and showcased degree programs such as respiratory therapy, nutrition, clinical laboratory science and nursing.

The conference offers students a rare, firsthand look at what these careers entail and the steps necessary to pursue such careers following high school. The ultimate goal of the conference is to inspire and encourage these students to choose health care careers for themselves and return to the region to help meet the needs of the Coastal Bend and surrounding areas.

Health Careers Discover Camp

Since 2008, the Health Careers Program has hosted a Health Careers Discovery Camp each summer on the campus of TAMHSC-College of Pharmacy in Kingsville.

This intensive, three-day camp provides a select group of students entering 8th through 12th grade with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to engage in a variety of health related careers in a hands-on environment. Partnering with both professionals and educators from numerous health care fields, this camp allows these students to explore their future health care career options. This year's event is scheduled for June 12-14th.
